Guides

How to do things in Jerome, one area at a time. Start with the first two; read the others when you need them.

Start here

  1. Getting started

Install Jerome, activate it, start your first project and find your way around the workspace.

  2. Before you go offline

Download everything once, while you have a connection, and then write anywhere, even on top of a mountain where no one can interrupt you.

Every other guide

  1. Writing

Organise your documents, write and format them, and keep track of words, comments and changes.

  2. Research

Keep your characters, places, timelines, plot, notes and sources with the project, and use them as you write.

  3. Translation

Translate a text paragraph by paragraph, with its source beside you, a glossary, a memory of what you have translated and a machine draft when you want one.

  4. Scripts

Write a film, a stage play or a musical and let Jerome lay it out, then export it as a PDF or for Final Draft.

  5. Comics

Write a comic script page by page and panel by panel, with captions, balloons and the counts an artist needs.

  6. Transcription, glossing and poetry

Type out a scanned book beside its pages, annotate someone else's text, or write poems line by line.

  7. Reviewing a manuscript

Open an author's Word file, suggest changes and comments, and send it back as a Word file they can read in Word.

  8. Import and export

Bring in what you have already written, send your work out as Word, Markdown, PDF or Final Draft files, and make a finished book with an EPUB, a typeset PDF, a cover and an audiobook.

  9. Planning

If you like to plan the work itself, keep kanban boards, to-do lists and schedules beside your project.

  10. Marketing

Make trailers and a website for your books, in projects of their own, and put them online yourself.

  11. AI help

If you want it, ask an AI model about your text or have it suggest edits, which arrive as tracked changes for you to accept or discard.

  12. Settings, licence and moving computers

Make Jerome look and read the way you like, and move your licence to a new computer.
